Our recent project at University of Southampton highlights how we use furniture to ensure the components of an inclusive space;
• Low-simulation environments for hyper-focus
• Quiet rooms for concentration
• Social spaces for simulation breaks
• Collaboration hubs to support extraversion
• Materiality and lighting to cue behaviours
• Active zones to encourage movement
• Low traffic areas to ease social anxiety
By making design adjustments, the workplace can support neurodivergent employees to feel well and perform their best. When spaces are designed inclusively, everyone can benefit, no matter the neurotype.
