University of Bristol - Fry Building

The University of Bristol has transformed the Grade II listed Fry Building to become the new home for the School of Mathematics from 2019.

The new building has lecture theatres, teaching rooms and a wide variety of spaces for student quiet study, areas for group working and individuals as well as social areas and interaction space.

The Fry Building is at the heart of the campus, just a short walk from Beacon House study centre and café, and close to Royal Fort Gardens and to the many other Schools in the University with which they interact.

While the historic character of the Grade II listed building has been preserved, new additions include an atrium linking to a new 140-seat lecture theatre underneath a roof garden.

The atrium integrates public art in the form of a Voronoi pattern. This Voronoi screen, which also acts as a brise-soleil, encloses what were originally external walls and has a large glass staircase from which you can enjoy spectacular views of the city.

The University of Bristol carried out a further competition procedure through the SUPC Furniture Framework for the design, supply, delivery and installation of office furniture to all levels of the Fry building.

Following contract award, we worked with the clients’ project management team to develop the specification and manage the budget, ensuring high quality products were proposed for key student areas and teaching spaces.

We provided samples at our showrooms as well as attending sample workshops at the University of Bristol.

We installed over 1000 Cinto meeting chairs from Humanscale throughout student areas in the building. We also supplied ranges from Nomique, Bisley, Allermuir, Orangebox and BOF’s own Harmony collection.

"A big thank you to the BOF team for your hard work setting up the furniture for us in the Fry building and taking extreme care with the building and flooring throughout. Snagging the furniture as it was arriving and fixing errors as they arose was very helpful during an extremely busy period. I was able to let the team get on with the job as I was confident in their work. A special thanks to Craig also for being on site and going above and beyond, we really appreciate the effort he has put in. It has been a pleasure working with you all."
