Loughborough University - Student Village
Loughborough University is one of the country’s leading universities, with an international reputation for research that matters, excellence in teaching, strong links with industry, and unrivalled achievement in sport and its underpinning academic disciplines.
As part of the University’s ongoing commitment to students, almost £50 million has been invested in new halls of residence in the heart of the Loughborough campus. The halls incorporate the UK’s first Active Campus – site wide facilities providing outstanding recreation and fitness opportunities. It is an exceptional environment where students can study and relax in spaces specifically designed to support learning, health and wellbeing.
On the same site the Elite Athlete Centre and Hotel (EACH) provides quality accommodation incorporating unique features designed to support top sports performers, the complex has cemented Loughborough’s status as the UK’s premier training environment for sport.
BOF were awarded the contract to supply & install loose furniture for the multi-million-pound New Student Village Accommodation, Student Hub and the Elite Athlete Centre following a competitive tender process via the NEUPC framework.
The requirement was for furniture to reflect the modern layout and design. The project was split into phases. The first phase which included the EACH was completed over summer 2018 with phase 2 incorporating the remaining Student Village and Student Hub completed in Summer 2019.
We completed the design and planning for this project, suggesting new products with a more domestic feel introducing Scandinavian design aesthetics.
A visit to Clerkenwell in London was organised to view products with the client in addition to product workshops for sample evaluation.
We installed dining furniture and soft seating into communal areas of 10 accommodation blocks across the Student Village which were installed in 2 phases to coincide with the build programme.
The specification included over 600 operator chairs for all student bedrooms.
Within the Student Hub we furnished the Reception Office, Common Room, Event Space as well as the Outdoor Space. Furniture supplied included ranges from Allermuir, Orangebox, Hay, Casala and New Design Group.
