The Catapult centres are a network of world-leading facilities where the very best of the UK’s businesses, scientists and engineers work side by side on late-stage research and development – transforming high potential ideas into new products and services to generate economic growth.

The (Compound Semiconductor Applications) CSA Catapult helps UK companies, particularly SME’s, to grow by exploiting advancements in compound semiconductor technologies which translate into opportunities for Power electronics, RF/microwave and Photonics.

In 2018 BOF tendered for the supply of loose furniture for CSA Catapult’s new research facilities located within the former P&T building located on Imperial Park, Newport. The facility is shared with a major Compound Semi-conductor manufacturer and will account for approximately 2,460m2. The space is split between open plan offices and specialist laboratories (Power Electronics, RF/Microwave, Photonics/Sensors an Advanced Packaging).

The team at CSA Catapult were looking to engage with a supplier who had the vision, passion, and enthusiasm to work with their Design Team to add the finishing touches to their high tech facility.

We worked in conjunction with Alison Monteith of Monteith Scott, Catapult’s appointed Designer. Our project team collaborated with the client and designers to ensure the agreed final specification met expectations and complimented the aesthetic of the interior.

The specification included furniture ranges from Senator, KI, Vitra, Boss Design, Brunner, Allermuir, Pedrali, Orangebox and Ocee Design.

The Catapult is set to create around 100 new jobs - adding to 23 posts at the centre itself already - but many more jobs are expected to be created among related businesses.
