Caerphilly County Borough Council - Bargoed Library

Architect: Pentan

Contractor: Carter Lauren

As part of the regeneration of Bargoed Town Centre, Caerphilly County Borough Council have provided Bargoed Town Centre with a new Public Library Facility. The Grade II listed Baptist Chapel has been redeveloped into a new library alongside an information centre and a space set aside for worship.

The aim of the conversion project was to preserve the major spaces with extensive features, whilst providing all of the ancillary and back-of-house spaces required by the library, the Customer First facility and the worship space. With this in mind, bof were chosen as the right furniture supplier to create an inspiring library environment. The aesthetic of the loose furniture we provided was bright and bold, introducing new colours and materials to the environment to contrast the renovation work and be more appealing to all age groups.

Since completion, in Autumn 2011, the building has won several awards including: Constructing Excellence Wales, ‘Project of the Year 2012’; RTPI Cymru ‘Wales Planning Award 2012’; UK Regeneration & Renewal 2012 – heritage category and was shortlisted for the RIBA Welsh Architecture Awards in 2013.
