Aberystwyth University - Hugh Owen Library

Aberystwyth University is one of the key Welsh Universities we supply via the HEPCW consortium. The Hugh Owen Library is the main University Library and the centre of administration for Information Services. Based on Penglais campus, it provides a space to study, whether you wish to study quietly on your own or with others. A range of facilities are provided both to help you with your studies and for quiet relaxation.

From regular student feedback, there was a clear requirement to maximise, update and improve appropriate student study spaces in the Hugh Owen Library. Through this refurbishment project the University aimed to:

  • Reconfigure the layout to improve the flow through the building and user access to facilities and services.
  • Open up and repurpose some of the existing ‘back of house’ areas to provide additional user space
  • Improve the lighting, heating and ventilation to make a more comfortable environment for our users
  • Update the decoration and furnishing to provide a space that meets our users’ needs

Information Services worked with the architects to develop a refurbishment scheme that met these needs. The building works commenced in June 2017 and the newly refurbished level D is ready for the new year – Wednesday 3 January 2018.

Judy Hall, Head of Sales liaised closely with the client to ensure we understood the brief and the project ran smoothly. To achieve the desired aesthetic BOF supplied products from Vitra, Hay, Frovi and James Burleigh.

Our project management team collaborated with the M&E Contractor to ensure the completed installation had adequate power and data with clean surfaces and efficient cable management.
