Clerkenwell Design Week’s ninth edition showcased a fantastic array of installations and product launches, marking a jam-packed sunny three days of events and networking.
On Tuesday 22nd May our Designers and Showroom team travelled to London to explore the furniture showrooms of Clerkenwell.
Our first stop was the Orangebox where we were shown around the 5 story showroom. The area is filled with both new product launches and their existing best sellers in a wide range of configurations and finishes. Convo, a new flip top table is by far the biggest flip top table we’ve seen on the market. The team were particularly impressed with the privacy glass wall of one of the meeting pods!
The next stop was a whistle stop tour of Nowy Styl, followed by a walk through the Clerkenwell ‘Projects’ tent where we saw the pop-up exhibits from Sixteen 3 and Agilita. The team then headed to the ‘British Collection’ where we saw the vibrant ‘Working Girl’ display by Deadgood.
We also caught up with James Burleigh who explained the features of his new product launches including ‘Hills’ - an updated version of the ‘Waldo’ bench, now with rounded edges. The new ‘Louie’ coffee tables are made from the waste materials of other products, making them very sustainable and affordable.
Our next stop was a trip to outdoor furniture specialist Jennifer Newman where we were able to discover her thinking behind some of her iconic products, and given a very informative tour of the colourful basement showroom.
We were drawn to the Camira showroom by the pen of sheep set up outside, followed by a walk around the ‘Umbrella and Friends’ exhibit where we saw products from Blå Station, Fritz Hansen and HAY.
Our visit to the interface showroom involved a selection of red, green and orange healthy juices along with an equally colourful selection of mood boards and surface finishes.
It was time for lunch so we headed to Frovi where Tracy and the team offered brilliant hospitality and a detailed tour of the new showroom pieces. Colour blocking on table tops seems to be making its way across the furniture industry this year, providing an effective way to zone areas and define space in shared working areas. Rebar, traditionally used as industrial steel reinforcement, is a material featuring in a lot of the new Frövi product launches. We’re looking forward to being able to bring some of the new Rebar products into the BOF Showroom to share with our own clients.
Along with quick visits to Vitra, Ocee Design and Flokk, we also visited Boss Design, where they were showcasing their new Mango booth, an ergonomically designed personal work booth and ATOM a modular seating and desking system.
Our busy day ended with visits to the Allermuir and Senator showrooms where we were able to see the new Axyl chair and Palio desking system described to us in our product training session a few days earlier. The Designers especially were very impressed with Allermuir’s finishes library and are very much looking forward to being able to add them to BOF’s fabrics and finishes library.
Day 2 - Wednesday
On the Wednesday our second team headed to Clerkenwell to visit a number of our suppliers. It was great to see so many new product launches and showroom developments. Our Managing Director Michael Parrish, Simon Narbeth (Design & Project Manager), Daniel Ball (Strategic Account Manager) and Lucy Davies (Marketing & Tenders) headed to Frovi first for a tour of their fantastic premises. The welcome was as warm as the weather and we loved the showroom particularly the Relic Cloud and the great Frappuccino’s!
We visited Era and Nomique followed by the Edge by Pledge showroom. Was good to see the new ranges they are bringing to market and the new acoustic wall tiles by Patternistas, made from recycled plastic bottles…
It was nice to see the Boss Design team in their newly refurbished showroom.
We had a quick look at the iconic ranges at the Vitra showroom before heading to the New Design Group showroom where we were warmly welcomed by Mark Langston, MD and owner in their beautiful showroom a short walk from the main buzz of CDW. Mark showed us their new and current products including the Frank Table and Bench with clear lacquered box-steel frames which we think our clients will love…
My first visit to the new Orangebox showroom… thanks to Tom Goard for showing us round the impressive five floors. Was great to see the new product launches as well as existing ranges like Away From The Desk and the improved Eva task chairs.
We had a great few days in London and look forward to next year! If you would like further information on any of the products and showrooms we visited at CDW 2018 please contact firstname.lastname@example.org. We will be introducing some of the ranges into our showroom over the next few months so we'll keep you posted...
