As a Graphic Designer at BOF I am responsible for creating our printed literature, website content, email campaigns and social media graphics. I work closely with our Design and Marketing teams as well as our Contracts and Project teams to produce product guides and presentations for tender bids.

Livewest, Tolvadden and BBC Wales
2019 got off to a strong start for us at BOF, with a few of our most anticipated projects from 2018 coming to fruition. The installation of furniture at the landmark BBC Wales - New Broadcasting House in the heart of Cardiff, and the continuation of our very successful partnership with Livewest, at their new Tolvaddon office building.

February was a month of internal updates at our showroom in Bridgend. Our showroom is a constantly changing environment, designed to reflect current trends in furniture, technology, methods of working and interior design. These updates included a refresh of our bespoke office ‘Garden’, the creation of a brand-new finish consultation space, and the introduction of a wide range of new products from the industry’s most well-known manufacturers, among others.
February also saw the creation of our highly successful ‘Featured Product’ area, designed to shine a spotlight on the newest and most innovative product from our industry partners each month.

University of Warwick, Sports & Wellness Hub
The arrival of spring was highlighted by the completion of the cutting-edge Sport & Wellness Hub at the University of Warwick. The £49 million facility includes a spacious 230-station gym and a 25-metre, 12-lane swimming pool – both enjoying views of the surrounding woodland. It also features a 12-court sports arena and six glass-backed squash courts, all highlighted by a cutting-edge climbing centre situated in the impressive entrance atrium.

Swansea University, IMPACT
April saw the completion of two highly anticipated state-of-the-art collaboration and research buildings, at Swansea University and the University of Southampton respectively.
Swansea University’s brand-new Institute for Innovative Materials, Processing and Numerical Technologies (IMPACT) research centre allowed us to continue our successful relationship with Swansea University and the Bay Campus, to deliver an environment ideally suited to foster academia-industry partnerships and promote cross-disciplinary fertilisation of ideas in the pursuit of new pioneering technology.

Clerkenwell Design Week 2019
Clerkenwell Design Week attracts thousands each year - drawing in visitors from across the globe, the cobbled streets of London came alive for the 3-day festival. This year, 18 members of the BOF team immersed themselves into the leading design district, covering 13 miles and visiting over 40 supplier showrooms. Our Design, Capital Projects and Sales Team covered every inch of CDW, keen to discover the newest furniture and interior design trends the industry had to offer.

Loughborough Student Village
June saw the completion of one of our most unique projects to date, and the announcement of a continuing partnership with one of the UK’s leading universities.
Following the completion of the University of Loughborough’s Elite Athlete Centre and Hotel (EACH), which provides quality accommodation incorporating unique features designed to support top sports performers. BOF provided design, specification and installation services for the newly developed Student Village. This included 10 accommodation blocks and the Student Hub.

CSA Catapult, Newport
We kick started summer 2019 with two impressive installations, the first at CSA Catapult in Newport. The Catapult centres are a network of world-leading facilities where the very best of the UK’s businesses, scientists and engineers work side by side on late-stage research and development – transforming high potential ideas into new products and services to generate economic growth.
We worked in conjunction with Alison Monteith of Monteith Scott, Catapult’s appointed Designer. Our project team collaborated with the client and designers to ensure the agreed final specification met expectations and complimented the aesthetic of the interior. The specification included furniture ranges from Senator, KI, Vitra, Boss Design, Brunner, Allermuir, Pedrali, Orangebox and Ocee Design.

University of Bristol - Fry Building
A contrast from CSA Catapult’s brand new, modern interior, in August the BOF team completed an installation at the Fry Building, for the University of Bristol. The Grade II listed building underwent a refurbishment which included lecture theatres, teaching rooms and a wide variety of spaces for student quiet study, areas for group working and individuals as well as social areas and interaction space. The historic building features classic design and architecture, current iconic furniture adds clashing diversity to the over-all building creating an aesthetically pleasing environment for students and staff.
The contrasting definitive architecture partnered with modern furniture ranges is demonstrated throughout the building, where over 1,000 Cinto meeting chairs from Humanscale were installed, in addition to ranges from Nomique, Bisley, Allermuir, Orangebox and BOF’s own Harmony collection.

Before we knew it September arrived and COUP (Conference On University Purchasing) 2019 definitely kept the Design and Marketing department busy. The theme of our stand this year was ‘Back to Nature’. Using biophilic design concepts, we created an “outdoors-in” space to catch the eye of any delegates walking around the exhibition marquee.
Our logo featured on our ‘Living Wall’, the FourReal A Table by Ocee Design featured an array of plants and our desktop gardens offer delegates an opportunity to grow their own mixed herbs or wild flowers. Held at the University of Leicester the team attended a number of interesting talks throughout the three day event which is always a great opportunity for us to meet clients and demonstrate our capabilities throughout the business.

Macmillian Coffee Morning
Another year, another successful Macmillan coffee morning. This year our 7th annual coffee morning to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. The BOF team never fail to disappoint with sweet and savoury creations. Charitable events are always successful at BOF especially if there is food involved!!
Furniture Donated to Schools & Charities across South Wales
In October community groups, charities and schools were invited to BOF over several days to view and select from a large collection of furniture items displayed in BOF showrooms and warehouse. Once selections were made BOF also arranged free of charge delivery for all donated items.
As well as Bridgend based schools such as Heronsbridge, Brynteg Comprehensive, Penybont Primary, Pencoed Primary, Croesty Primary and Archbishop McGrath Comprehensive, Community Groups and Schools from across South Wales responded and were welcomed to BOF to make their selections, culminating in almost 30 local schools benefitting from the donated desks, tables, chairs, bookcases, cupboards and lockers.
This donation drive saw over £40,000 worth of furniture going to organisations across South Wales at a time of significant financial constraints for many – the biggest donation drive BOF has undertaken to date.
November was a busy month at BOF highlighted with the launch of our ReThink Industry events, inspired by our newspaper publication which features many topics relating to design, furniture and interiors, so there was no better way to expand on this.
Our Rethink event featured guest speaker Nathan Hurley, Digital Manager from Orangebox who spoke about his recent findings in his white paper “The Sticky Campus and the new dynamics of Smartlearning” which demonstrates the changing world of higher education and the impact that iGen students will have on the contemporary workplace. The interesting presentation certainly had the audience engaged as we invited a number of our clients including, delegates from Higher and Further Education, Welsh Government, Local Government, Architects, Project Management and supporting industries. BOF then provided an informal lunch, where product demonstrations took place, showcasing new furniture pieces.
BOF Team Expanding
The excitement continued with the employment of four new team members including Megan who joined the design department as a Designer. Megan recently completed her induction and training modules and is already an integral member of the BOF design team, currently collaborating on several key client projects and enjoying being part of our forward-thinking team.
The Capital Projects team welcomed Andrea and Carrie who bring industry knowledge with their past employment at Triumph furniture. They are already fully involved with and supporting the existing fast-paced strategic department on high profile, ‘live’ capital projects.
Last but not least the Accounts department have welcome George who has been supporting the Accounts team across all disciplines and is enjoying the cross functional training he is receiving.

As the year comes to an end and the dust settles we got festive wearing our Christmas jumpers and outfits to work raising over £270 for the Special Care Baby Unit at the Princess of Wales Hospital in Bridgend.
